Use AI-assisted fields

Across DeltaVault, many text fields offer AI help with the writing: descriptions, definitions, AI instructions, Usage, Limitations, and the per-category AI context, among others. These AI-assisted fields look like ordinary inputs until you ask for help, and they never change your text without showing you first.

The AI context field of a table, column, entity, attribute, model, domain, or project is the exception. It’s a plain box, because the app’s own AI is what fills it, and you edit it by hand.

Open the editor

An AI-assisted field shows a small sparkle button labeled Edit with AI. Open the larger editor either by selecting that button or by double-clicking the field. A dialog opens with your current text and a row of AI actions.

Ask AI to write or refine

In the editor you can type freely, or use one of the AI actions:

  • Draft writes a first version from scratch, using the surrounding context.
  • Improve rewrites your current text to read better while keeping its meaning.
  • Shorten tightens your current text into something more concise.
  • Ask AI to … takes a free-form instruction in your own words (for example, “make this more formal”, or “mention that this is a financial term”) and applies it.

Hover over any action (or focus it with the keyboard) to see a short description of what it does.

Review before applying

AI never overwrites your text silently. When an action returns, the editor shows the result under AI suggestion. Select Apply suggestion to move it into the editor, or Discard to leave your text as it was. You can run more actions, edit by hand, or accept. When the editor holds the text you want, select Apply to write it back to the field, or Cancel to close without changing anything.

When a suggestion overlaps closely with your current text, select Show changes on the suggestion to see exactly what differs: removed words are struck through, added words are highlighted. Select Hide changes to return to the plain suggestion. The comparison is available whenever you started from existing text; drafting from an empty field has nothing to compare against.

See which definitions the AI wrote

The Definition field of a business entity, a business attribute, a table (on its Details tab), and a column (in its Edit Column dialog) also records who wrote the text you save. Save the text exactly as an AI suggestion left it and it is recorded as the AI’s: the AI badge, a sparkle icon and AI, appears beside the Definition label, with no percentage, because these actions give no confidence score. It is separate from the sparkle button inside the field, which still opens the editor. Change even one character before you save and the definition is yours, with no badge. The AI context field carries the same badge while a skill’s text stands there, and loses it once you edit that text. Grids show the same mark as a small sparkle icon beside the text. Hover the badge or the icon, or focus the badge with the keyboard, to read “Accepted from an AI proposal” and “It stays marked until someone edits it.”

Single-line and multi-line fields

Some AI-assisted fields are single-line (a short description, or a table’s definition) and some are multi-line (a longer note, such as AI instructions or usage). The AI actions and the review step work the same way in both; the only difference is how much room you have to type.
