Working in DeltaVault as your persona

DeltaVault can present itself differently depending on the kind of work you do. Your persona decides which navigation you see when you sign in. It is a tailored view of the same platform, not a different product, and it never changes what you are allowed to do.

There are two personas:

  • Data Steward keeps the business model healthy: definitions, classifications, the glossary, and the knowledge base, from a navigation focused on governance. This is the persona you have if your administrator has not assigned you a different one.
  • Data Engineer works the full surface: modeling, the catalog, templates, and pipelines.

Switching personas

If your administrator allows you more than one persona, a Persona option appears in your account menu (your avatar in the top-right corner). Pick a persona and the whole app reskins: the navigation changes to match. If you are allowed only one persona, there is no Persona option and nothing to choose.

Switching is your own choice within the set your administrator allowed. It changes nothing about your permissions.

Persona is not permission

Your persona and your role are separate things. Your role (editor or viewer) decides what you can change. Your persona decides what you see and where you start. Switching to a more focused persona never widens or narrows what you can do; it only reshapes the surface. An administrator who sets your persona is choosing your view, not your access.

Not the same as the workshop modeling persona

The business modeling workshop has its own “modeling persona” preference (Business user or Data modeler) that only sets whether a workshop starts in Guided or Express mode. That preference is unrelated to the personas on this page: it affects one workshop screen, not the whole app. See Run a business modeling workshop for that setting.
